Terms of Service

Effective: 12 June 2026 · Last updated 22 September 2026

Updated 2026-09-22: named the operator; added the Open Food Facts licence line.

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the ClearEaty mobile app and companion website (together, the “Service”), operated by Patroventure LLC (“we”, “us”, “our”). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use it.

1. What ClearEaty is

ClearEaty is operated by Patroventure LLC, a New Jersey limited liability company.

ClearEaty helps you understand the ingredients in packaged foods. It scans barcodes or ingredient-label photos, looks products up against the Open Food Facts database, and uses an AI model (Anthropic Claude) to generate ingredient and overall health scores. The Service is for general information only and is not medical, dietary, nutritional, or health advice.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use ClearEaty. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or legal guardian has agreed to these Terms on your behalf.

3. Using ClearEaty with or without an account

You can use ClearEaty as a guest without signing in — a random identifier on your device keeps track of your activity. You may optionally sign in with Google or Apple to save your foods and access them across devices. You’re responsible for the security of the account you sign in with. You can sign out, or permanently delete your account and saved data from inside the app at any time (Account → Delete account).

4. Accuracy — please read

Ingredient data comes from Open Food Facts, a community-maintained open database. We don’t guarantee it is accurate, complete, or current. Product formulations change often — always check the physical product label.

Health scores are generated by a third-party AI model. They reflect general nutritional guidance only; may contain errors or model bias; and do not account for your individual health conditions, allergies, or dietary needs. They are not a substitute for advice from a qualified dietitian or physician. Do not make medical or dietary decisions based solely on ClearEaty scores.

No warranty. The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Service for any unlawful purpose;
  • reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code;
  • interfere with or disrupt our servers or networks;
  • use automated means to scrape, access, or overload the Service;
  • impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation;
  • attempt to circumvent authentication or security measures.

6. Intellectual property

The ClearEaty name, logo, design, and original code are owned by us or our licensors and protected by law. You may not copy, distribute, or create derivative works without our written permission. Open Food Facts data is licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL).

7. Third-party services

The Service relies on:

  • Open Food Facts — product data and photos, data ODbL, photos CC-BY-SA (world.openfoodfacts.org). ClearEaty scores are our own opinion and our own work.
  • Anthropic Claude — AI ingredient scoring, governed by Anthropic’s usage policies.
  • Firebase (Google) — authentication and data storage, under Google’s terms.

We’re not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or practices of these third-party services.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages; any loss of profits, data, or goodwill; or any damages arising from reliance on AI-generated scores or on inaccurate or missing ingredient data. Our total liability for any claim arising from your use of the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim — which is $0 while the Service is free.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless ClearEaty and its officers, members, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service or your violation of these Terms.

10. Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access at any time, with or without notice, for conduct we believe violates these Terms or harms other users, us, or third parties.

12. Governing law & disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service will be resolved by binding individual arbitration in New Jersey, except that either party may seek injunctive or equitable relief in a court of competent jurisdiction.

Class-action waiver. You agree to resolve disputes with us individually, and waive any right to participate in a class action or class-wide arbitration.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted means you accept the updated Terms.
